How we work with data

How we source and verify numbers.

Mercorise is a data analytics and market intelligence studio, not a black-box AI tool. Our job is to help you explain real numbers — not manufacture them. This page outlines how we source, reconcile, and verify the data that appears in your decks and dashboards.

1. Primary sources: your systems and official filings.

We rely on structured, traceable data — not guesses. For each engagement, we typically work from:

  • ERP / financial systems (e.g. sales, AOI, margin, backlog)
  • Data warehouses, cubes, or curated Excel models
  • Internal management reports and bridge files
  • Power BI or other BI exports where helpful
  • Company press releases
  • Quarterly and annual reports
  • Investor presentations and earnings decks
  • Regulatory filings and reputable financial databases

2. No AI-generated numbers. Ever.

We use AI tools to help with formatting, structure, and language — but never to invent or “estimate” financial numbers. The quantitative parts of your deck follow this rule:

  • Every figure in a table, chart, or bridge is sourced from real data.
  • We do not ask AI models to “fill in” or “approximate” financials.
  • If we create a stylized or fictional case example, it is clearly labeled as illustrative and not based on your data.

3. Reconciliation and audit trail.

A deck is only useful if you can defend the numbers. For bridges and trend views, we:

  • Start from reported totals (net sales, AOI, margin, EPS, etc.).
  • Break changes into drivers (price, volume, mix, costs, FX, acquisitions, one-offs).
  • Check that each step ties back to a source file or system extract.
  • Ensure the final figures match your reported numbers for that period.

Where helpful, we can leave behind a simple mapping or reconciliation tab (Excel or Power BI) so your team can trace each line item.

4. Competitor and market data.

For competitor and market slides, our default is to use public and clearly referenceable information:

  • Peer company quarterly and annual reports
  • Official investor presentations and earnings transcripts
  • Regulatory and exchange filings
  • Recognised, licensed financial data providers where applicable

We do not reverse-engineer confidential competitor information, and we do not present speculative numbers as fact. Where assumptions are used, they are clearly described as such.

5. Confidentiality and governance.

We understand that industrial, electrical and B2B operators often work with sensitive customer, pricing and product data. To protect that:

  • We can work inside your secure environment where required.
  • We avoid including customer-identifying details unless explicitly requested.
  • We are happy to sign NDAs in line with your legal requirements.
  • Illustrative examples we share publicly are fully anonymized.

If you need a more formal description of our sourcing and verification approach — for internal risk, audit, or governance teams — we can adapt this page into a one-page PDF.
